Welcome to the μBGA project.

μBGA is a collaboration project between EU companies and Research Organisations. The main objective is to develop novel technologies for the 396,326 SMEs in European Electronics Sector.

Electronic systems must incorporate more functionality into a smaller volume.

This is the major driver

for the microelectronics industry”

ESIA 2008 Report,

“Mastering Innovation – Shaping the Future

Why focus on the Electronics Sector?

  • Increasing sophisticated electronics suppliers from the Far East, China and Japan are highly competitive to the SME dominated European Electronics industry.
  • These overseas companies are following the global trends for miniaturisation of electronic goods by developing technologies to produce smaller PCs, mobiles, PDAs, Audio equipment etc.
  • The 396,000 EU SMEs in the supply-chains must develop technologies to enable them to manufacture smaller electronics

What is the μBGA approach?

The novel technology will be based on miniaturisation of Ball Grid Arrays (BGAs) that will allow miniaturisation of electronic equipment such as PCs, laptops, mobile phones, electronics in automotive and aerospace industries.
